The location is in the Italian Alps, near Bormio and Sulden, 75 km from Bolzano, close to the Swiss border. (The road connects the Valtellina with the upper Adige valley and Merano)
Overall height is 2757 meters and is famous for “the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, after the Col de l’Iseran (2770 m)”

This truly is the worlds best driving road!
Just came back from a run up/down to the Stelvio Pass Unfortunately, it was in a piece of garbage 2.0L diesel VW Crossover. First and second gear crapped out at 2000rpm and the handling was like a sow navigating through the feed trough. Great fun, however. Oh, for my 1964 AC Cobra!!!
I WILL go to the Stelvio Pass someday! (bucket list)
When Top Gear came to America to find the best road they went to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wrong Road! It is beautiful but the Tail of the Dragon in Robinsville, N.C. is much better.
right , james say the Transfagarasean romainian road is best than Selvio 🙂
I ran the Stelvio Pass a few years ago coming back from a ski trip. My cousin and I, which guided me to this lovely surprise , his son , ski gear, in a Toyota Yaris, the sport version… Those fats tires help… It was still lots of fun, using the parking brake to rotate the car… Were pissing ourselves from laughter, cause gear was , let’s say, getting tossed around..with the boy in the back, and the skies kept getting in my shifting and parking brake usage.. My Alfa 155 Q4 would be so much fun through there once I replace my suspension to my liking… My cousin Dino said (we have to come again)
I concurred… 🙂
